Today I got an e-mail with information on my host family! I was so excited. It had a letter and a picture writen by my new host mother Esthela Leal. She has a husband and two children, 36 and 23. The 23 year old lives at home and goes to school, I don't think at Tec but am unsure. It also looks like I will have three other students living there with me, that should also be fun. So now one of my problems is totally fixed!
Also yesterday I got an e-mail from the insurance agency about extending my coverage. I was told to fill out a form and fax it in then my card would be mailed. So today the info was faxed and now I am only waiting for the card tobe mailed. So now that both problems are resolved I can relax once again and enjoy the holidays.

looking up
The day after my last post, perfect timing I suppose, I got two e-mails. One from my study abroad advisor here saying she fixed the insurance card and a new one is on the way. The second was from the head of International Students at Tec; she said that they still haven't recieved my e-mail, but she will trust that I will pay it when I get here, place me with a family, and I can void the check. I won't find out anything about the family until the day I get there though, a little anerving, but I can handle it.
This weekend I did a few more things: bought a phone card, got a Costco card (yes Monterrey has two), signed up for a Costco rewards AMEX, transfered money into my checking, bought a new laptop (built in webcam), and worked on readying my laptop.
I also helped to ready the house for Christmas. My mom and I finished decorating the upstairs tree, found and put up the downstairs tree, and got out all the Santas (we are now up to 94!) The craziest part was Chico just goes wild this time of year. He was knocking ornaments off faster then we could hang them.
Well hope everyone had a great weekend, aside from the cold, snow, and ice. I should have fun with finals this week, and I will write again soon.

pre-departure
This semester is drawing to a close and that means that I am getting ever closer to my semester abroad in Monterrey, Mexico. I have been looking forward to this for about a year now, and after much hard work, paper work, and phone calls it is official a go. I was accepted back in mid October, and have been doing busy with other pre-departure tasks.
I have sent away every thing for host family placement, but unfortunately am still waiting for information. Today I got an e-mail from there coordinator saying I still need to send the money and paperwork, so not a good sign. Hopefully it will all work out within the next week.
This past weekend there was a pre-departure information session for all the students going abroad in the spring. It was very informative, yet long and way to early in the morning for a rainy Saturday. However this meeting brought with it another snafu. I got my insurance card, and do to me being good and filling everything out early I used the original school end date, but that date has gone back 4 days, so now I am uncovered for those four days. A big problem see that the school requires me to be fully covered for every day of the semester. Oh well just something else to devote time to while studying for and taking finals.
Anyways, even with these two obstacles I am very much excited for this experience. I will try to keep this blog updated, I promise at least once a week.
